The Phrases
Phrase is a grammatical unit consisting of two or more words that does not consist of a subject and a predicate.
Sentence is a grammatical construction that contains a complete mind. Sentence is formed from one or more clauses, where there is at least one independent clause (consisting of subject and predicate). Sentences start with a capital letter and end with a full stop. exclamation mark or question mark.
Phrases Characteristics
1. Phrases consist of at least two words or more.
2. Phrases are non-predicative.
3. Phrases have a grammatical function "the meaning changes according to the context".
Noun Phrase
Example:
An expensive laptop
- An expensive : Modifier ("an" is article, "expensive" is adjective
- Laptop : Noun
The swimming pool
- The swimming = Gerund ( "The" is article, "swimming" is Verb-ing)
- Pool = Noun
A new car
- A new : "A" is article, "new" is adjective
- Car : Noun
A long table
A long : “A” is article and “long” is adjective
Table : is noun
Verb Phrase

Example:
She has done the Calculus homework.
Has done is the verb phrase. It is Present Perfect Tense
He will be playing basketball in the playground.
will be playing is the verb phrase. It is Future Continuous Tense.

Have read is the verb phrase. It is Present Perfect Tense
Dad has cleaned the house
Has cleaned is the verb phrase. It is Present Perfect Tense
"I have fixed the network problem"
have fixed is the verb phrase. It's a Present Perfect Tense

Has finished is the verb phrase. It is Present Perfect Tense

is fishing, is a verb phrase. this is present continuous tense.

Have bought, is a verb phrase, this is Present perfect tense.

- Prepositional phrase that functioned as adjective describes a noun or pronoun.
- Prepositional phrase that functioned as adverb describes a verb.
Examples:
- The laptop on the table is mine.
The phrase on the table is Prepositional phrase that functioned as adjective because it describes the noun "Laptop".
- I keep the laptop on the table.
The phrase on the table is Prepositional phrase that functioned as adverb because it describes the verb "keep".
Table is a noun that becomes the object of preposition "on". The combination between a preposition and its object is called Prepositional phrase. Because the phrase describe a noun (laptop), so the phrase is a Prepositional phrase that functioned as adjective. Because the function of an adjective is to describe a noun or pronoun.
- Amy showed me a picture 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙣𝙚𝙬 𝙥𝙪𝙥𝙥𝙮.
(“picture” = noun being described; “of” = preposition; “of her new puppy” = adjective phrase)
- Our class filed 𝙤𝙪𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙘𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙡 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 when the fire alarm rang.
(“filed” = verb being described; “out” = preposition; “out of the school building” = adverb phrase)
- The car in front of me ran the red light
The phrase "in front of me" is Prepositional phrase that functioned as adjective because it describes the noun "Car".
- He is sitting near the door.
The phrase "near the door" is Prepositional phrase that functioned as adverb because it describes the verb "Sitting".
